She Painted Her Faith

Who painted all of these pictures? Her name was Minerva Teichert. She was born in 1888 in Utah and grew up on a farm in Idaho. Get to know this talented artist.

Minerva did rope tricks and Native American dances to pay for art school in New York.

At age four, she got her first set of watercolors. She took a sketchbook along when she rode her horse, Gem.

Sister Teichert taught many children to draw and paint.

She married a cowboy and raised five children on a ranch in Wyoming. She was very busy, but she said, “I must paint.”

She made over 1,000 paintings, and many show pioneers and scenes from the scriptures. She used bold brush strokes and strong colors.

Her children, grandchildren, and neighbors were models for the people in her paintings. In one painting, her husband was the model for the Apostle Peter, and her bishop was the model for Jesus Christ.
