How to Draw like a Friend Artist
The art in the Friend is an important part of the magazine. Heavenly Father has blessed our artists with a talent to create, but these artists also work hard to improve their talents. Friend senior designer Brad Teare shares a few tips about how he creates art in the magazine.
-
With a soft pencil draw an egg shape for the head. Add a tube-like shape for the neck and a rounded line for the shoulders.
-
Lightly draw some lines to indicate where the eyes and nose go. You can measure your own face to see where these lines should go.
-
Add circles for eyes and curved lines for the mouth, nose, and ears. Keep shapes simple.
-
Add details like hair, cheeks, and pupils. You can change details like making the chin larger or any other change you think will make the drawing better.
-
Use an ink pen or a small brush and draw over the top of your drawing with waterproof ink. Let the ink dry, and then softly erase the pencil lines.
-
Using colored pencils or crayons, add color over the top of the ink lines. You now have a fun picture of Nephi you can share with friends.
