Bulletin Board
Good Word
This month’s good word is service. It means doing things that help other people. Do you know who it is we’re really serving when we serve others? Find the answer on page 15.
Journal Junction
Each month this year you can write a little bit of your own history in your journal. This month write about your father. What is his name? What does he look like? What do you like to do together? Draw a picture of your father, or write down your favorite memory of him.
My dad’s name is Robert. He has a crew cut. We do lots of stuff together. One of our favorite things is to go to the zoo. He likes the monkeys. I like the polar bears.
Melon Treats
Create your own fruity treats this summer! With an adult’s help, slice melon into large pieces that are 1 inch thick. Then use small cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the melon. Eat the shapes plain, or try different toppings like yogurt or honey. Try different kinds of melon as they come into season!
June Service Box
You’ll read a lot about service in this issue. Have your own month of service by decorating an empty box and calling it your Service Box. At the beginning of the month write down ways you can serve others, like being kind to a new kid at school, helping a brother or sister with chores, or making a card for someone. Put the papers in the box. Each week, pull out a few acts of service and try to do them during the week. You could even ask your family or friends to join you with their own boxes of service!
