Some people were very angry with the early Saints and even tried to hurt them. The Saints had to move from place to place to be safe. In 1846 the Saints left Nauvoo and traveled west in wagons. The journey was long and hard. When Brigham Young saw the Salt Lake Valley, he said it was the place they should settle and make their new home. Later, other pioneers traveled in handcarts.
