Missionaries first came to Portugal in 1974. Today Portugal has about 45,000 Church members.

Tasty Food

People in Portugal often eat seafood and meat with olive oil, fresh herbs, and spices. Many meals also include rice, potatoes, or bread.

Portugal’s first temple was dedicated in 2019.

Activity

Barra do Lenço

In this game, two teams face each other in a large space. Each player is given a number that matches the number of a player on the other team. Someone stands in the middle with a piece of cloth. When they call a number, the players who have that number run to the middle and try to grab the cloth. If a player gets the cloth, their team gets a point. If a player is touched, the other team gets a point.

Recipe

Portuguese Tomato Rice

1. Pour 1/4 cup olive oil into a pot. Chop 1 onion and 2 garlic cloves. Cook over medium heat for a few minutes.

2. Add 1 cup rice, 2 cups chopped tomatoes, and 1 cup chicken broth. If you want, add some salt, pepper, chili flakes, and bay leaves.

3. Bring it to a boil. Then cover the pot. Cook on low heat for 20 minutes.

4. Fluff the rice with a fork. Take out the bay leaves if you used any.
