A Conference Message from the Prophet

Temple Power

Adapted from “Rejoice in the Gift of Priesthood Keys,” Liahona, May 2024, 119–21.

In March, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bought the Kirtland Temple. This temple was an important part of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

On April 3, 1836, Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple. The Savior accepted the temple as His house. He then promised, “I will manifest myself to my people in mercy in this house” (Doctrine and Covenants 110:7). This promise applies to every temple today.

In the temple, you can receive answers to prayer. You can also receive faith, strength, comfort, knowledge, and power. Time in the temple will help you to think celestial and to see who you really are and who you can become. It will help you understand how you fit into God’s magnificent plan. I promise you that.

What Is the Kirtland Temple?

The Kirtland Temple was built in Kirtland, Ohio, USA, in 1836. It was the first temple of the restored Church.

Later, Church members had to leave it behind to move west. Another church cared for the building for many years. Recently, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bought the temple.
