After being called as bishop, Edward asked his wife, Lydia, to pray for him so he could fulfill his calling in a way that pleased the Lord. After Edward’s death, the Lord told Joseph Smith that He had received Edward “unto myself” because of his diligence (Doctrine and Covenants 124:19).
