• 1792–1871

• After his wife, Julia, died, John asked Joseph and Emma Smith to raise his newborn twins .

• Established a mission in Sydney, Australia, in 1851.

• John served at least six missions for the Church between 1831 and 1853—sometimes at a great sacrifice to himself and his family. Throughout his life, he defended the Prophet Joseph Smith and was constant in his devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
