Established a mission in Sydney, Australia, in 1851.

John served at least six missions for the Church between 1831 and 1853—sometimes at a great sacrifice to himself and his family. Throughout his life, he defended the Prophet Joseph Smith and was constant in his devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
