The Savior’s Parables
The Prodigal Son
A rebellious son asks for his inheritance and leaves home.
He wastes everything his father gave him on pleasure.
A famine hits, so he works feeding pigs.
One day he realizes he can go home and ask for help.
When he gets home, he asks to be a servant to his family, not believing he deserves to be treated as his father’s son anymore.
But his father forgives the prodigal and accepts him as his son, and the household celebrates the son’s return.
What It Means
The prodigal son represents us when we rebel against our Heavenly Father. But no matter where we’ve gone or what we’ve done, Heavenly Father wants us to come back home to Him and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We don’t have to be perfect. We do have to be remorseful and humble, come unto Christ, and repent. God will clothe us in glory and show us our true worthiness.
