What if I can’t say I know the gospel is true?
If you don’t feel you can say, “I know,” that’s OK. Start with what you believe. And if you’re unsure about that, start with what you desire to believe. Then “let this desire work in you” (Alma 32:27) and lead you to act—to pray, study, repent, serve. As you exercise faith, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. Over time, you may confidently say, “I believe.”
“Belief is a precious word, an even more precious act, and [you] need never apologize for ‘only believing.’”
Cherish the gospel truths you believe. Act on them. Be true to them. As you do so, you will be blessed with the Holy Spirit. And you can feel at home in the Church no matter what kind of testimony you have. As President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, then–Second Counselor in the First Presidency, said, “I know of no sign on the doors of our meetinghouses that says, ‘Your testimony must be this tall to enter.’”
