Volume 19, Number 8

On the cover: Seminary teacher and proud father Robert Gandia has seen many of his former students become full-time missionaries as the Church grows in his island nation of Papua New Guinea.

Back cover: Above, left: Seminary and literacy teacher Esther Kairi (center) and students Varia Audie and Hou Hiovea from Papua New Guinea enjoy the spiritual development that comes with living the gospel. Above, right: Typical stilted houses line the shore leading to the capital city of Port Moresby in the background. Below: On a Church assignment, Sister Diana Winter of Perth, Australia, greets a young New Guinean.

Nearly one-third of the world’s languages are spoken in Papua New Guinea. But the restored gospel is unifying these isles of the sea, and people are beginning to hearken and listen together. See “‘One Talk’ in Papua New Guinea,” page 40. (Photography by Michael R. Morris.)

Inside back cover: Christ Raising the Daughter of Jairus, by Greg K. Olsen. Demonstrating great faith, Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, implored Jesus to restore his daughter who was “even now dead” (Matt. 9:18). But Jesus declared “she is not dead, but sleepeth. And [the people] laughed him to scorn. … And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway” (Luke 8: 52–55).
