Each Christmas, thousands of people view the lights on Temple Square. Begun in 1963, the annual display has grown in size and complexity. Workers begin in August to string approximately 300,000 ornamental lights on trees, shrubs, and lawns. Central to the display is a life-size manger scene and the narration of the biblical Christmas story, Christmas concerts are presented each night in the Tabernacle, the Assembly Hall, or the visitors’ centers.
