Family Home Evening Ideas
This issue contains articles and activities that could be used for family home evening. The following are a few examples.
“A Gift for Grandma,” page 58: Consider reading about Kimberly’s gift to her grandmother. You can use the following questions to help you discuss the story: Why do you think her letter meant so much to Grandma? How do you feel when someone thanks you for something? How do you think Heavenly Father feels about gratitude? You can read about gratitude in For the Strength of Youth on page 18. Consider telling the story of Jesus Christ healing the 10 lepers in Luke 17:11–19 and discuss what this story teaches about gratitude. For an activity, each family member could write a thank-you note to deliver to someone that week.
“A Baptism Blessing,” page 66: You could begin your family home evening by singing “Nephi’s Courage” (Children’s Songbook, 120). Then read the story of Trevor overcoming his fear of water and consider the following questions: Have you ever been afraid of doing something? What helped you not be scared? Invite family members to share things they need to do that they are worried about. As a family, discuss ways you can help each other develop courage. For an activity, you could create an obstacle course in the room. Blindfold someone in your family. Help him or her practice trust by safely walking through the obstacle course by listening to instructions. You can discuss how the Spirit will guide us and comfort us in situations where we feel afraid.
