Memorable Moments in Conference
As President Russell M. Nelson promised, this general conference was unforgettable in many ways.1 Here are a few memorable conference moments.
New Symbol
President Nelson announced a new symbol for the Church (see page 73). The symbol includes the name of the Church encased in a rectangle, representing a cornerstone. Above that stands a Christus statue under an arch, reminding us of the Savior and His empty tomb.
Bicentennial Proclamation
President Nelson read “The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World,” which invites people everywhere to learn that the gospel of Jesus Christ spoken of in the New Testament is on earth again today. The official translation can be found on the inside front cover of this issue in 12 languages. Members who are still waiting for an official translation can find preliminary translations of the proclamation in President Nelson’s talk (see page 91).
Solemn Assembly
A “solemn assembly” was held Sunday morning as part of the Church’s bicentennial celebration of the First Vision. During this sacred meeting, President Nelson led the Saints in the Hosanna Shout, a united expression of praise used at special events like temple dedications (see page 92).
Second Worldwide Fast
For the second time in nine days, President Nelson invited the world to fast and pray “that the present pandemic may be controlled, caregivers protected, the economy strengthened, and life normalized” (page 74). This second global fast took place on Good Friday, April 10, 2020.
New Temples
President Nelson announced plans to build eight new temples throughout the world (see page 115). There are 168 dedicated temples worldwide, with 7 of those under renovation.
Youth Speakers
The Saturday evening session featured talks from two teenagers, Laudy Ruth Kaouk and Enzo Serge Petelo, who spoke about how the priesthood blesses youth (see pages 56 and 58). It has been more than 20 years since youth speakers were included in general conference.
Powerful Music
Musical numbers for conference were prerecorded. Saints around the world concluded conference by singing “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet” with choirs in Ghana, New Zealand, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, and Brazil (see page 2).
