The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Donates Food Hampers
The Port of Spain Stake has made a donation to help families in Trinidad during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The Church made the donation of two hundred relief food hampers to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Department Special Operations Response Team (SORT) at a hand-over ceremony held on 6 June at the Church’s Port of Spain chapel.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Ashton Garcia, first counselor in the Port of Spain Stake, expressed his gratitude to the Police Commissioner and SORT for making it possible for the Church to reach out to vulnerable families through this partnership. “As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are following His teachings and by this donation we are giving to those citizens who are temporally affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic”, President Garcia stated.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Special Operations Response Team acting sergeant Sherwin Waldron, who represented the commissioner of police and director of SORT, thanked the Church and its membership for its generous donation. He said Church members were under no obligation to give this donation of hampers, but it demonstrated their love to the people who will be receiving them.
These hampers will be distributed by SORT and bring much needed relief to two hundred families throughout communities in Trinidad that were affected during this most difficult period.
President Garcia pledged the Church’s continued support if further assistance is needed.
