LIGHT THE WORLD
Light the World: December 2020
Here are some examples of simple, daily acts of service that you might consider—or come up with your own.
Giving of one’s time, talents, and love during Christmastime can bring deeper purpose and meaning to a season in which we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
We can all follow His example and make the world a better place by uplifting those around us.
Each day leading up to Christmas Day is an opportunity to serve others—one by one.
1.Start a gratitude journal and write one thing you are grateful for every day in December.
2. Think of someone who is an example of Christlike service. Highlight that good example on social media.
3. Donate items to a local second-hand store or a charity—or give to someone in need.
4. Send a good morning message to let someone know you’re thinking about him or her today.
5. Feed a homeless person or someone in need.
6. Offer a prayer of gratitude for Jesus Christ and His mercy—ask to know who to help.
7. Think of your family members or someone you know who is in need. Perform a silent act of service.
8. Share/text a scripture with a friend or a loved one who may need a boost today.
9. Record your family singing a carol or greeting and send it to someone who is ill or lonely.
10. Write down a memory of a parent or grandparent for your children or grandchildren.
11. Call your parents or other family members right now and tell them how much you love them.
12. Share art, a song, a poem, to express how you feel about Jesus Christ, or create your own.
13. Write ‘thank you’ notes to your boss, teacher, leader, mentor, or friend and describe what he or she does well.
14. Plan a one-on-one activity with a friend, a child, or a loved one.
15. If you owe anyone an apology, resolve to apologize today.
16. Learn about one of your ancestors and share the story. Need help? Visit FamilySearch.org or lite.fs.org.
17. Take a vow of positivity today. Greet someone you see with a smile.
18. Think of someone for whom you’ve had negative feelings lately. Try including that person in your prayers.
19. Love your neighbours: wearing gloves and mask, remove litter from your neighbourhood.
20. Watch “The Christ Child” video with family or friends.
21. Be “kind” instead of “right” today.
22. Ask God how you can be an answer to someone else’s prayer today.
23. Think of a neighbour you don’t know very well. Deliver some homemade goodies or a thoughtful gift.
24. Connect with a family member who lives farthest away. Send a message.
25. Merry Christmas! Share all the things our Saviour Jesus Christ has done for you with your loved ones—or write in your journal.
