Principles Give Me Place and Purpose
At the end of February, the Cheltenham Stake began making changes to its callings in the young adult programme. There was a need and desire to restore the young adult’s place and purpose in the stake, especially during the pandemic.
On March 7, 2021, a regional young adult Sunday School session was held, after a long pause since the last session. (The region consists of the stakes of Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Merthyr Tydfil, Poole, and Plymouth.) The lesson, based on Doctrine and Covenants 20–22, dwelt on the official organisation of the Church.
I wondered about the organisation of the young adults in the Church: what is its purpose and where do young adults fit? I was also pondering the meaning and significance of the principles that applied to it.
So, I did some searching online. I couldn’t find a specific time when young adults became an official group in the Church. I was a little bothered by that. I then searched some more, using words to try to understand the place and purpose of young adults, especially in my stake. It then became clear that the principles of the Saviour’s gospel are the purposes behind Church groups. These principles give us their foundation.
Being founded on Christ is not just a nice thing to say. It’s literal. It brought me peace, and I felt a little more at ease with my place as a young adult and what it meant to me.
Groups in the Church, whether formally organised or not, are all based on the same principles that were brought by the Restoration and organisation of Jesus’s Christ’s authorised Church on April 6, 1830.
Principles are lifesaving! I am grateful that the Lord restored them through the Restoration and organisation of His Church on the earth. I believe that as citizens of the UK and Ireland remain firm and steadfast to Christ’s principles, their lives will be blessed significantly for good.
