“How can you strengthen your family through compassion?” Liahona, December 2021

Come, Follow Me

How can you strengthen your family through compassion?

The Family: A Proclamation to the World

The family proclamation lists many principles for strengthening families, such as “faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”1 Studying and applying each of these principles can help us build stronger relationships. Consider, for example, the principle of compassion.

What does compassion look like at home?

One way we show compassion in the home is to “bear one another’s burdens” (Mosiah 18:8). What can you do to help members in your family with the struggles they face?

How does Jesus Christ show compassion?

Read about how He ministered to the Nephites in 3 Nephi 17:5–10. What do you learn about compassion from Christ’s example?

The Savior’s compassion

“One of the attributes of the Savior we most appreciate is His infinite compassion. …

“… You can and must be an important part of His giving comfort to those who need comfort” (Henry B. Eyring, “The Comforter,” Liahona, May 2015, 17).

To whom could you give comfort?
