“Mary, Mother,” Liahona, December 2021
Mary, Mother
The author lives in Texas;
Mary, blessed among women:
In earliest days
did He in whose name our cries reach heavenward
have His cries answered hourly
by the loving care of the woman most blessed
who kept all these things
and pondered them in her heart?
In unseen hours
did He who carried the burden of our suffering
learn pain, comforted and hunger filled,
while wrapped in the arms of the woman most blessed
who passed through the valley of the shadow of death
for Him who would overcome it?
In tender youth
did He who took upon Himself our sorrows
know heartache, disappointment, and grief,
secure by the stature of the woman most blessed
who presented herself a handmaid
to give life to Life and Light?
Did you heal the Great Healer,
soothe the balm of Gilead,
calm the Master of earth and skies?
And in that day, will it be with some tender remembrance
that He wipes our tears away?
