Handbook Highlight
Receive Your Endowment
Have you heard priesthood leaders or members of the Church encourage you to prepare to receive your endowment? You might be wondering what that is. The General Handbook explains.
“The word endowment means ‘a gift’”, says the General Handbook. “The temple endowment is literally a gift from God through which He blesses His children. The endowment can be received only in holy temples. Some of the gifts that members receive through the temple endowment include:
-
“Greater knowledge of the Lord’s purposes and teachings.
-
“Power to do all that Heavenly Father wants His children to do.
-
“Divine direction when serving the Lord, their families, and others.
-
“Increased hope, comfort, and peace.”1
As you approach the one-year anniversary of your baptism, the General Handbook suggests doing the following things to prepare for your endowment.
Firstly, begin attending temple preparation classes.
Secondly, set up an interview with the bishop to receive a temple recommend.
Thirdly, set a date with the temple to receive your endowment.2
It’s such and new and exciting experience to receive your endowment. You might have questions before you go, and maybe even more afterwards. It is a learning process even for individuals who have been many times. Your understanding will increase as you continue to return to the temple.
