Seeking Christ in Christmas

Mary and Joseph with the baby Jesus

Behold the Lamb of God, by Walter Rane

We love the Christmas season with its majestic origins. President Russell M. Nelson reminds us that “our focus must be riveted on the Savior,” whose birth we celebrate (“Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives,” Liahona, May 2017, 41).

In this issue, President Henry B. Eyring’s message, “The Promised Messiah,” invites us all to find Christ in our Christmas celebrations: “In the midst of our reverie, we give gratitude to God for the glorious gift ‘called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace’ (Isaiah 9:6)” (see page 4).

This year’s Old Testament studies have also inspired us to seek Christ in all we do. We have noted symbols of our Savior from the Old Testament as we have looked and listened with spiritual eyes and ears. What beautiful symbols of our Savior have you found in your studies?

We believe that seeking Christ in our Christmas customs, traditions, and celebrations creates lasting testimonies and enduring memories. It helps us experience the full spirit of joy and love found in Christmas. We hope the Christmas insights we share on pages 8–9 might help to rivet your focus on Jesus Christ. May we all seek testimonies of the promised Messiah in the sights, sounds, and celebrations of Christmas this year and always.

Merry Christmas, dear friends!
