Members Hold Health Fair

Known to its members as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; in the country of Trinidad and Tobago, the Church was still unknown. Even though its branch in the Arima District has existed for many years, community members entered the church for the first time on October 29, 2022, for the International Day of Service free health fair.

The first event of its kind for the Church locally, the Trinidad Port of Spain Stake partnered with the Ministry of Health to offer a free health fair, open to members of the public. The health fair hosted several booths such as blood donations, blood pressure testing, blood glucose testing, prostate-specific antigen testing, HIV testing, vision and eye disease screening, hearing screening, mental health screening and a vaccination booth for COVID-19 vaccines, the flu shot, hepatitis A, hepatitis B and several others.

Community members who attended the event admitted that it was their first time visiting the church and were surprised by the warmth felt by the members and youth who donned yellow helping hands vests and ushered them to each booth. The young men and women of the stake interacted with the public with glee and excitement and eagerly answered questions about the Church presented by nonmembers.

A blessing to some; one senior citizen stated that the health fair answered her prayers. She needed a doctor’s letter to join the clinic at the public hospital and could not attain one because of the cost. However, when she attended the event, there was a booth for doctor’s visits, and she got the letter free of charge.

Also in attendance was the mayor of Arima, Cagney Casimire, who commended the stake for serving the community and commended the missionaries for their selfless service.

Despite the inclement weather in the days approaching the event, the health fair saw sunny skies with rainfall beginning just as the event concluded. It was a true miracle from Heavenly Father and a sign that His work must go on.
