The Savior’s Invitation to Share His Light
Before He ascended into heaven, the resurrected Christ invited His New Testament Apostles to be a witness of Him “unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Inspired by this responsibility, the Apostles “ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ” (Acts 5:42).
In his article in this issue, a modern Apostle, Elder Quentin L. Cook, explains how we can share the Savior’s gospel despite our inadequacies. He writes, “As we live the gospel, love and serve others, stand strong in the face of temptation and persecution, and bear testimony in word and deed, we will draw others to Jesus Christ” (page 4).
By drawing near to the Savior ourselves, we preach through testimony and example. He will be in our midst, as I explain in my article in this issue, if we honor our covenants and seek His counsel through the words of prophets (see page 40).
In our study of the Apostles’ ministries in Come, Follow Me this month, let us reflect on our own duty and call to share the Savior’s light with those around us. Christ ascended into heaven long ago, but as we plead for Him to “abide with us” (Luke 24:29) today, He will walk with us one step at a time.
