Ephesians

  • To Church members in Ephesus (a city in modern-day Turkey)

  • Written from Rome in about AD 60–62

  • Purpose: To teach converts, promote unity, and encourage Saints to persevere against evil

  • Key teachings: The dispensation of the fulness of times, salvation by grace, the organization and purpose of the Church, and order in family life

Philippians

  • To Church members in Philippi (a city in modern-day Greece)

  • Written from Rome in about AD 60–62

  • Purpose: To praise Saints for their faith and sacrifice and to warn of corrupt Christians

  • Key teachings: Principles of righteous living, looking to Christ for salvation, and sacrificing for the gospel cause

Colossians

  • To Church members in Colossae (a city in modern-day Turkey)

  • Written from Rome in about AD 60–62

  • Purpose: To warn of pride and emphasize that redemption comes through Christ

  • Key teachings: The nature of Christ, building a foundation on Him, and developing Christlike attributes

1 Thessalonians

  • To Church members in Thessalonica (a city in modern-day Greece)

  • Written from Corinth (a city in modern-day Greece) in about AD 50–51

  • Purpose: To offer encouragement and answer questions about the Second Coming

  • Key teachings: Loving one another, the Resurrection, and the Second Coming

2 Thessalonians

  • To Church members in Thessalonica (a city in modern-day Greece)

  • Written from Corinth (a city in modern-day Greece) in about AD 50–51

  • Purpose: To strengthen faith and clarify misunderstandings about the Second Coming

  • Key teachings: The fate of the unrighteous, the Great Apostasy, and the importance of working to provide temporal needs
