How Can We Make Our Congregations More United?
Paul heard there were divisions among Church members in the city of Corinth (see 1 Corinthians 11:18). In response, he pleaded with them in a letter “that there should be no schism [split] in the body [of the Church]; but that the members should have the same care one for another” (1 Corinthians 12:25).
We can show this “same care one for another” through selfless acts of love and charity. Paul mentioned several ways we can do this to make our relationships more unified.
Rejoice with and mourn with others.
“Whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26).
Perform selfless acts of service.
“Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s good” (Joseph Smith Translation, 1 Corinthians 10:24 [in 1 Corinthians 10:24, footnote b]).
Unite our testimonies of the Savior.
“For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread [of Christ]” (1 Corinthians 10:17).
Love everyone.
“Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God” (1 Corinthians 10:32).
