What Truths Do 1 Nephi and 2 Nephi Teach Us about Jesus Christ?
Near the end of his writings, Nephi says, “If ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ” (2 Nephi 33:10). Many truths about the Savior’s character, life, and Atonement are found in what we’ve studied in the Book of Mormon so far this year.
Christ’s Character
-
He is full of patience, kindness, and long-suffering (see 1 Nephi 19:9).
-
He will always remember us (see 1 Nephi 21:14–16).
-
He invites everyone to come unto Him (see 2 Nephi 26:24, 33).
Christ’s Ministry
-
He taught His gospel and healed the sick (see 1 Nephi 11:24, 27–31).
-
He set an example of obedience by being baptized (see 1 Nephi 10:9; 2 Nephi 31:7–12).
-
He was crucified, placed in a tomb, and visited the Nephites after His Resurrection (see 1 Nephi 19:10–11; 2 Nephi 26:1).
Christ’s Atonement
-
He redeemed us through His sacrifice (see 2 Nephi 2:6–7).
-
He performed an “infinite atonement” that conquers physical and spiritual death (2 Nephi 9:5–22).
-
He can empower us when we have faith in Him and choose to repent (see 2 Nephi 31:13).
