Grateful for a Prophet

President Russell M. Nelson shaking hands with a woman in Hawaii

President Russell M. Nelson greets Latter-day Saints in Kona, Hawaii, on May 16, 2019, during his Pacific ministry tour.

Dear Parents,

This month President Russell M. Nelson celebrates his 100th birthday. Articles in this issue emphasize how he and other prophets point us to Jesus Christ.

One way youth can follow the prophet is by responding to his invitation to attend seminary regularly and read the scriptures daily. He has promised wonderful blessings to those who do, including learning to receive personal revelation, finding answers to life’s difficult questions, and coming to know the Savior. Have your teenage children heard this prophetic invitation? Visit seminary.ChurchofJesusChrist.org to find out more information.

Remember Your Covenants

In President Jeffrey R. Holland’s article on page 4, we learn how keeping our covenants and wearing the garment of the holy priesthood after we are endowed will provide “greater access to the Savior’s mercy, protection, strength, and power.” You could talk with your family about how wearing the garment “is an outward expression of your inner commitment to follow [Jesus Christ].” What are other outward expressions we do to show our commitment to be His disciples?

Keep the Commandments

Elder Isaac K. Morrison asked President Nelson for a personal message for his wife and children. The prophet’s response was “Keep the commandments.” (See page 20.) You might ask your children: How might your choices be different if the prophet sat at a table with you and asked you to keep the commandments?

Follow the Prophet

President Nelson turns 100 this month! President Dallin H. Oaks shares some of the lessons he has learned from the prophet (see page 12). What have your children learned from the prophet? Has there been a specific talk or devotional that has stood out to them? Share your thoughts. You could watch a video message from him.
