After Baptism: A Close Study of Moroni 6:4
You can dive deeper into Moroni 6:4 by studying individual words or phrases.
baptism
“The gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water” (2 Nephi 31:17).
wrought upon
When we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, He works upon us in a particular way to cleanse, purify, and sanctify us (see 3 Nephi 27:20).
cleansed
After baptism “cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost” (2 Nephi 31:17).
“The Holy Ghost is a sanctifier who cleanses and burns dross and evil out of human souls as though by fire.”
people of the church of Christ
Whenever the Lord’s people are organized, it is under His authority. People join the Church of Jesus Christ by being baptized and confirmed, entering a covenant to take His name upon them.
their names were taken
“Record keeping has always been important in the Lord’s Church.” The Church of Jesus Christ keeps a record of its members so that the Church can help them in their spiritual progress and in meeting their needs.
remembered
In addition to having our names in official Church records and receiving attention from Church leaders, we can be “remembered” by each other.
“As members, we should always be attentive and look for new faces when attending Church activities and meetings. … We can do simple things to help these new friends feel embraced and welcome in the Church. … They will feel like they can fit in and make new friends, and most importantly, they will feel the Savior’s love through our genuine care.”
nourished by the good word of God
“Inspired instruction in the home and in the Church helps provide this crucial element of nourishing by the good word of God.”
“Every word we speak can strengthen or weaken faith. We need help from the Spirit to speak the words which will nourish and which will strengthen.
“There are two great keys to inviting the Spirit to guide what words we speak as we feed others. They are the daily study of the scriptures and the prayer of faith. …
“The good word of God with which we must nourish is the simple doctrine of the gospel. We need not fear either simplicity or repetition. …
“… It takes a childlike heart to feel the promptings of the Spirit, to surrender to those commands, and to obey. That is what it takes to be nourished by the good word of God.”
watchful unto prayer
To be watchful means to stay awake, to be alert, to be vigilant. Praying regularly, humbly, and sincerely—checking in with Heavenly Father—helps us to stay alert to spiritual dangers, avoid temptation, and be led by the Spirit (see Matthew 26:41; Alma 13:28; 34:39).
alone
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation” (Psalm 62:5–6; emphasis added).
“Remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved” (2 Nephi 10:24; emphasis added).
merits of Christ
The merits of Christ include His sinless life and His infinite Atonement, which make our redemption from sin and death possible (see 2 Nephi 2:6–8).
the author and the finisher of their faith
Jesus Christ is the Beginning and the End, Alpha and Omega. Through His Atonement and Resurrection, He both provides the foundation for our faith and completes or perfects it.
