Introduction

Answering My Gospel Questions is a unique institute course that allows students to select gospel-related topics they find relevant and want to discuss. Teachers are not expected to be content experts on the topics students select. Instead, students and teachers will learn together. Teachers will use a principle-based learning process that can help facilitate open, honest, and edifying discussion.

Getting Started

Before you begin this journey with your students, become familiar with the course design. Taking these initial steps can ensure that you and your students start this learning journey in the right direction and on solid ground:

Step 1: The Overview.Review the table of contents and read the introduction. Then record what most excites you about this course and any concerns you might have.

Step 2: The Learning Outcomes.Find the learning outcomes in lesson 1, and consider how following them can strengthen your students’ faith in Jesus Christ and His restored Church.

Step 3: Guiding Principles.Review lessons 1–3, and look for the core principles taught in these lessons. Then ponder how applying these principles can keep your class discussions on solid ground when discussing challenging topics.

Step 4: A Pattern for Learning.Go to lesson 4 and identify the “pattern for learning” that will guide your class discussions. Consider why it might be important to practice this pattern while teaching lessons 4–6, before your students begin selecting their own topics in lessons 7–14.

Step 5: Microtrainings.Read the introduction for the microtrainings in Appendix A. Become familiar with each microtraining. Ponder how and when you might use them to enrich your students’ learning experience.
