Book of Mormon Doctrinal Mastery Review 1

Mark and Memorize

Students

One of the purposes of doctrinal mastery is to help you memorize the doctrinal mastery scripture references and key scripture phrases. This lesson is intended to help you locate, mark, and practice memorizing the scripture references and key scripture phrases for the first 12 Book of Mormon doctrinal mastery scripture passages.

Marking doctrinal mastery passages. Marking these scripture passages will help students remember and locate them more easily. Invite students to consider marking doctrinal mastery scripture passages in a way that is unique from their other markings.

Student preparation: Invite students to review the scripture references and key scripture phrases for the first 12 doctrinal mastery passages in the Book of Mormon. Students can find these passages in the Doctrinal Mastery Core Document (2023) or in the doctrinal mastery app.

Possible Learning Activities

A doctrinal mastery passage lesson may need to be taught in place of this review lesson. Refer to the pacing schedule provided by the area or region director or coordinator to ensure that each doctrinal mastery passage lesson will be taught while seminary is in session.

Depending on the size of your class, consider assigning each student one or more of the 12 doctrinal mastery scripture passages. If necessary, the same passage can be given to multiple students.

Students could move around the classroom and work with another classmate who has a different doctrinal mastery passage by doing the following (consider writing these on the board):

  1. Ask a question to get to know each other better. (For example: “What is one of your hobbies?” “What is one of your favorite places to visit?”)

  2. Help each other locate and mark the assigned doctrinal mastery scripture passage and key scripture phrase.

  3. Share how knowing the truth in the key scripture phrase might be a blessing in your life.

  4. Try to memorize the scripture reference and key scripture phrase.

Encourage students to switch partners every couple of minutes. Have them continue switching until all students have identified or marked all 12 doctrinal mastery scripture passages.
