Alma, Amulek, and Zeezrom
Choosing to believe in and obey God
Alma saw that many Church members were not obeying God’s commandments. So Alma went from city to city teaching the word of God. Many people repented. Then Alma came to a city called Ammonihah. The people there did not listen to him. They spit on him and chased him out of the city.
Alma felt sad as he left the city. He was worried for the people. Then an angel came to him. The angel said that Alma could be happy because he had obeyed God. The angel told Alma to go back to the city and warn the people. If they did not repent, they would be destroyed. Alma quickly went back.
When Alma came to the city, he was very hungry. He had fasted for many days. Alma asked a man named Amulek for food.
Amulek told Alma about a vision he had seen. In the vision, an angel told Amulek that Alma was a prophet of God. Amulek wanted to help Alma.
Amulek took Alma home and gave him food to eat. Alma stayed at Amulek’s home for many days. God blessed Amulek and his family. Later, God told Alma and Amulek to tell the people in the city to repent. Alma and Amulek obeyed. God gave them His power to help them teach.
One of the people who heard them teach was named Zeezrom. He was very smart and wanted to trick Alma and Amulek. Zeezrom told Amulek he would give him a lot of money if he said God was not real. He wanted Amulek to lie so that the people would not believe what Amulek and Alma taught.
Alma 10:29–32; 11:21–25; 12:4–6
But Amulek would not lie about God. He said God was real. Amulek and Alma knew Zeezrom’s thoughts. Zeezrom was amazed and asked them many questions. They taught Zeezrom that God has a plan for all people. Zeezrom believed what Alma and Amulek taught about God and Jesus Christ.
Alma 11:23–46; 12:1–18, 24–34; 14:6–7; 15:6–7
Zeezrom was very sorry for the bad things he did. He became sick. Alma and Amulek visited him. Alma said Zeezrom could be healed because of Zeezrom’s faith in Jesus. Alma asked God to heal him. Zeezrom jumped to his feet. He was healed! He was baptized and taught the people for the rest of his life.
