Using Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families
Who is this resource for?
This resource is for every individual and family in the Church. It is designed to help you learn the gospel individually and with your family. Even if you haven’t studied the gospel diligently in the past, this resource can help you get started. If you already have a good habit of gospel study, this resource can help you and your family to have more meaningful experiences.
How should I use this resource?
Use this book in any way that is helpful to you and your family. It is divided into three parts:
-
Learning from the Book of Mormon. You will find this section helpful as a guide or aid to your personal and family scripture study. The weekly study outlines proceed sequentially through the Book of Mormon. They highlight important principles found in the scriptures, suggest study ideas and activities for you and your family, and provide places to record your impressions.
-
Learning the Gospel by Topic. You might turn to this section when you want to deepen your understanding of a particular gospel topic. This section includes three monthly topical study outlines. These could also be excellent resources for family home evening lessons.
-
Gospel Art for Learning and Teaching. This section provides pictures, coloring pages, and other visual aids to supplement your gospel study.
As you use this resource, remember that Heavenly Father wants you to return to Him—clean, pure, refined, and sealed to your family. Every activity idea, every scriptural insight, and every piece of art in this book is meant to help you and your family, regardless of your circumstances, achieve that goal. If you find that your faith in the Savior Jesus Christ and your commitment to Him are increasing, and if you feel that your family members are drawing closer to Him, then however you are using this resource, you are using it correctly.
How does this resource relate to what happens at church?
The material in this resource is organized according to a schedule of weekly scripture passages and monthly topics. The lessons taught in church classes and quorums on Sunday will also follow this schedule—Primary and Sunday School classes will follow the scripture study schedule, and Young Women, Relief Society, and priesthood meetings will follow the schedule of monthly topics. To support your efforts to learn and live the gospel at home, your teachers will give you opportunities to share your experiences, thoughts, and questions about the scripture passages or topics that you and your family have been studying during the week.
Do I need to follow the schedule?
The schedule will help you keep up with the material covered in Sunday classes and quorums, but don’t feel bound by the schedule; it is a tool to help you pace yourself and prepare for class discussions. The important thing is that you and your family are learning the gospel, individually and together.
