Nutrition

“Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving. Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly. … All grain is good for the food of man; as also the fruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground.”

Doctrine and Covenants 89:11–12; 16

The Lord wants you to care for your body. In a revelation called the Word of Wisdom, recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 89, He taught us how to feed our bodies properly. He said the revelation was “given for a principle with promise” (verse 3). If we follow the principles in this revelation, the Lord promises us “health in [our] navel and marrow to [our] bones” and “wisdom and great treasures of knowledge.” He also promises that we “shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint” and that “the destroying angel shall pass by [us]” (verses 18–21).

Fueling your body with proper energy and plenty of nutrients allows you to bring your best to your service as a missionary. Eating well will help you thrive physically and spiritually.
