My Calling as a Priests Quorum Assistant

Responsibilities

The Lord is grateful for your willingness to serve in His Church. Below is an overview of the responsibilities for your calling.

Purpose of the Aaronic Priesthood

Aaronic Priesthood quorums help young men make and keep sacred covenants and deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ and His gospel. The purpose of a quorum is to help priesthood holders work together to participate in God’s work of salvation and exaltation. (See General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10.1, Gospel Library.)

Priests Quorum

Young men join the priests quorum beginning January of the year they turn 16. If they are prepared and worthy, they may also be ordained priests. Priests have the same duties as deacons and teachers. Priests can also administer the sacrament, perform baptisms (including temple baptisms), and ordain other priests, teachers, or deacons (see Doctrine and Covenants 20:46–52, 73–79; General Handbook, 10.1.3.3).

Assistant

The priests quorum assistants support the quorum president, the bishop, with his responsibilities. This includes leading quorum efforts in participating in God’s work of salvation and exaltation; getting to know and serve each quorum member, including those who do not attend quorum meetings; strengthening new and returning members; teaching quorum members their priesthood duties; and planning and conducting quorum meetings (see 10.4.2.) The quorum presidency should meet regularly (see 10.4.3).

Service and Activities

The bishop and youth quorum leaders, supported by advisers, plan service and activities. These should help accomplish the work of salvation and exaltation. They should be balanced among four areas of personal growth: spiritual, social, physical, and intellectual. (See 10.2.1.3.)

Guidelines and Policies

Additional guidelines and policies, including supporting young men with disabilities, receiving Children and Youth emblems, and gathering fast offerings, are found in section 10.8 of the General Handbook.
