Revelation 15–22
Overview
John the Revelator painted a vivid picture of the destruction and wickedness that would fill the world during the prophesied last days. In the final scenes of his great revelation, he saw “a new heaven and a new earth” and a holy city descending from heaven (see Revelation 21:1–2). He testified that God “will dwell with” the people of this city, “and they shall be his people” (Revelation 21:3).
Prepare to Teach
The following information provides teachers with ideas of what may need to be prepared in advance for each lesson.
Revelation 15–19
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students rely on Jesus Christ more confidently as they face the challenges of the last days.
-
Student preparation: Invite students to ponder what they know about the trials of the last days and reasons they can rely on Jesus Christ.
-
Handouts: “Angels and plagues,” “Wickedness and the Savior’s power,” and “Marriage of the Lamb”
-
Videoconference teaching suggestion: Divide students into breakout rooms for activity options A, B, and C. Students could be allowed to choose their option, or they could be grouped randomly. Visit each breakout room periodically to observe what students discuss and to help if needed. When the breakout rooms end, it could be helpful to share with the entire class some of the insights that each group discussed.
Revelation 20:11–15
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students better understand the Final Judgment and prepare to have a wonderful experience standing before Jesus Christ on that day.
-
Student preparation: Invite students to read Revelation 20:12 and to come to class prepared with questions they have about the Final Judgment.
-
Image to display: The image of the Final Judgment found at the top of the lesson
-
Materials for students: Copies of the statements in the “Commentary and Background Information” section that could be helpful
-
Videoconference teaching suggestion: Encourage students to use the chat feature to share questions they have about the Final Judgment. This will allow other students to refer to their classmates’ questions as they ponder what questions they would like to further research.
Doctrinal Mastery: Revelation 20:12
Lesson purpose: This lesson can help students memorize the doctrinal mastery reference and key scripture phrase for Revelation 20:12, explain the doctrine, and apply principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge.
-
Student preparation: Invite students to review Revelation 20:12 and to prepare to share with the class what they have learned about the Final Judgment and how we can prepare for it.
-
Content to display: The five questions that will help students explain the doctrine
-
Student presentation: Consider asking three students before class to each review one of the principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge and to prepare to share a brief summary of that principle as part of the lesson.
-
Videoconference teaching suggestion: Consider using a whiteboard feature to allow students to type in things that they have learned about the Final Judgment. Then ask several students to talk to the class about what they typed.
Revelation 21–22
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students understand that the opportunity to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in the celestial kingdom is worth all their efforts.
-
Student preparation: Invite students to ponder what the celestial kingdom might be like and why they would want to inherit it.
-
Videoconference teaching suggestion: Consider sharing your screen to display the handout “Why striving for the celestial kingdom is worth our best efforts” so that students can study the included resources on their own. Instruct students to type their responses to the scenario in the chat but not submit them yet. Invite one willing student to submit their response, and ask the other students to review and discuss the response. This could be repeated one or two more times. Alternatively, all students could submit their responses at the same time, and students could pick ones they liked and share why.
Assess Your Learning 12
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students evaluate the goals they have set and the growth they have experienced during their study of the New Testament.
-
Student preparation: As students complete their study of the New Testament, invite them to create a list of the three to five most impactful scripture passages they have studied this year.
-
Content to display: The instructions for activities A and B
-
Image to display: The image of Paul testifying before King Agrippa
-
Videoconference teaching suggestion: When students begin writing epistles, it may be wise to invite them to keep their cameras on. This will make it possible to observe their behavior and notice when they are close to finishing the task.
