When you pray, you may follow a pattern such as the following:

  1. Address our Heavenly Father (“Our Father in Heaven, …”).

  2. Express the feelings of your heart (gratitude, questions, requests to confirm what is true, and so on).

  3. Close (“in the name of Jesus Christ, amen”).

The following is an example of one individual’s first prayer after a missionary (Aaron) taught him how to pray:

“O God, Aaron hath told me that there is a God; and if there is a God, and if thou art God, wilt thou make thyself known unto me, and I will give away all my sins to know thee” (Book of Mormon, Alma 22:18).

Prayers are offered out loud in a group and can be offered either out loud or silently when praying alone.

  • Have you prayed before? If so, what has your experience been like?
