I am not a Mormon …

I am not a Mormon, but I am seriously considering joining the Church. I want to be sure before I take that step, however. I was visiting a friend in Ogden this past November and I read a lot of her old issues of the New Era. They helped me learn more about the Church and helped me understand some things I wasn’t sure about. I want my own subscription.

I didn’t realize

I didn’t realize how much I depended on the Church until I read “Life in a Small Branch” in the October New Era. I recently moved to Walla Walla, Washington, from Ogden, Utah, and thought it was hard having only two wards and going to seminary before school instead of during school like in Utah. Then I read the story by Katherine England, and it made me realize how lucky I am to be able to go to seminary every day and have good LDS friends. It also thrills me to see missionaries in action. I’ve never been around full-time missionaries until I moved here, and in our ward there are two. I thought the article was a great testimony builder.

Forever subscription

I have never felt the Spirit of the Lord more strongly than when I read your beautiful magazine. I have been reading it for almost two years, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop subscribing. It is a wonderful help in any young person’s life. The articles are priceless, and I treasure every issue. They will be reread many times. The New Era never fails to relate directly to my life and usually gives me the insight I need to help someone else too. It is a fantastic missionary tool and a very big part of my life each month.

“There Is a Purpose in Life”

I really enjoyed the article “There Is a Purpose in Life” by President Kimball in the September New Era. As a missionary in the Louisiana Shreveport Mission I feel all missionaries should take it to heart. It really helped me learn how to love and serve others and how to set my life in order. I’m grateful for this opportunity to serve my Father in heaven, and I pray we can all love our fellowmen. Thanks for the New Era; it’s a real character builder.

Mid-month mood mender

I love the New Era. It helps keep my spirits up. I miss it sometimes when it doesn’t show up until the middle of the month, but I don’t really mind, because when it comes I read it from cover to cover. It’s beautiful.

People I know

Thank you for the article about the Hansen brothers in the March issue. A few years ago I met some of the family when I visited their home. The first thing Mr. Hansen did was take me in and show me the trophies. All Dave could talk about was what good wrestlers his brothers were. It was good to read about some people I know.

It started in May

During the past summer our family was privileged to see many of the historical sites of the Church. I was thrilled as we watched the Hill Cumorah Pageant and visited the birthplace of the Prophet Joseph Smith, but I missed one thing—the New Era! It was in May that I really started to read the New Era, and now once I start I can hardly put it down until I’ve read it from cover to cover. I love the counsel given by our leaders and the way the New Era complements this with exciting fiction stories. The New Era has motivated me to start reading other Church books too. Thanks so much for this great missionary tool.

“Who moved my magazine?”

The New Era is really a dynamic missionary. I picked up the New Era the other day without realizing that my father, a nonmember, had been reading it. He came back into the room and said, “Who moved my magazine?” The New Era always gives me a special uplifting feeling and helps renew my testimony.

Inspired in Brazil

I feel that I have been inspired to share with New Era readers an experience that has made a great impression on my mind and my heart. After I had turned on the radio that we had borrowed from one of our investigators, we, a group of elders, sat motionless, waiting for the broadcast to come on. We had some difficulty finding the station, but after a short but sincere prayer we heard the message we had all been waiting for. We listened to the words being spoken, and as the interpreter paused, we heard, loud and distinct, the voice of the living prophet of God speaking in the background. As I looked at the smiles on the faces of the elders and the warm glow in their eyes, I couldn’t help but feel the love and companionship of our Lord Jesus Christ. To hear the words of God through his mouthpiece, President Spencer W. Kimball, has been a great strength to my testimony. I’m very grateful for the opportunity I have to be a member of this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Being a camera freak …

I am 15, and the New Era is the only magazine that I read from cover to cover. I especially enjoy the “Mormonisms.” They are always original and funny. Also among my favorites are the feature articles you do on members of the Church who excel in their particular fields. Being a camera freak, I enjoyed the covers of the November and January issues.

Seek the best

“Seek Ye out of the Best Books”—what words of wisdom these really are. This inspirational article in the August issue helped me with some questions that I had about books. I used to worry about reading books not written by LDS authors. But now this article has become a great guide for me and has helped me set the goal of reading other good, useful, and interesting books in addition to those by LDS authors.
