Recollection
I had a Latin teacher once
Who suffered daily
Because we would not love her.
Latin, not her, was what displeased us.
But she, and we,
Confused the two.
“Amo, amas, amat—”
“I love, you love, he loves.”
Such a simple lesson!
But we missed it,
Everyone of us.
