When I’m lonely
I would just like to thank you for making my life more comforting. My oldest brother and sister are both married and my younger brother is on a mission in Florida, so I’m the only kid at home. My father works overtime a lot, so I’m home alone most of the time. So when I am lonely, I turn to my scriptures and to my newest issue of the New Era. Together, you and my scriptures make me happy. Thanks a lot, New Era. And whoever it was that subscribed for me, thanks a million. I love you!

Two-month menu
Each issue of the New Era is eagerly read by everyone in our household. But the January-February issue was especially welcome. The selection of one’s career and how a young person plans and prepares for success is too important to ignore. So as a family we decided to devote our family home evenings during February and March to this subject. This issue on careers has been a great help.

The missionary balloon
On January 22, 1985, the elementary school where I work launched a number of small, helium-filled balloons. Post cards were returned from as far away as Alabama, Oklahoma, and Arizona, but the most interesting response was from only five miles away. It said: “We are missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We would like to help you learn about the Church. Call us!” Our missionaries are great and never let a chance to share the gospel pass them by.

Changes
My parents just subscribed to the New Era for me. So far I have only received two magazines, but I already enjoy it. I can’t wait for the next one to come each month. It has helped me to realize for what purpose I was put on the earth. It also answers the questions I need answered and makes me stop to think about how I am doing spiritually. It gives me the inspiration and guidance I need as a 12-year-old girl.
The New Era really has affected me. I notice the changes, and so does my family. Like a more positive attitude and the will to do my best in everything I do. It has helped me become a better person so that someday I can return to my Heavenly Father. Whenever I am angry or frustrated, I just read the New Era, and it cools me off. I appreciate this magazine. It will be something I enjoy reading for many years to come. Thanks for everything.

Letter from Lisbon
I’m writing to you just to say that I sure like the articles in the New Era a lot. It sure helps us young people to share experiences and also to have a better understanding of the gospel.

More than just a babysitter
I am 14 years old, and I really enjoy reading both the New Era and the Friend. I especially loved the article “More than Just a Babysitter” in the March issue. I love children, and I sometimes work as a babysitter. This story gave me more new ideas for making babysitting times really fun for the children. Thanks.

I got an A
The New Era is a great comfort to me. I am a convert to the Church, and I have learned many wonderful things this past year just by reading this great magazine! I go to a Catholic school, and I have to take a course in religion. In this class I was assigned to give an oral report from a magazine or book on “My Personal Happiness.” I chose the article “The Business of Being” in the July 1983 issue of the New Era. Elder Cuthbert really knows the meaning of maturity. When I gave that report, I know that the Spirit was with me. He helped me to touch the hearts of many in my class, and I am grateful for that. By the way, I got an A!

A little miracle
Thank you for this inspired magazine. In the October 1984 issue, the article “A Little Miracle” really touched my heart, because I have quite often had the chance to work with physically handicapped people. From my experiences with these special people, I have learned to have charity and to show love for all people.
Once again, I thank you for this monthly magazine. It touches my heart every time I use it and strengthens my testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.

Tattered, torn, and dirty
The Church magazines are a real source of help in our missionary work. In Zimbabwe, Africa, materials are very limited, and we use very old issues of the Ensign, Friend, and New Era that have been left by previous missionaries. Young and old people come to us to borrow them. The magazines come back tattered, torn, and dirty, but we know their contents have been devoured.
As missionaries in this part of the world, we feel a great blessing can come to these people if they have their own copies of the Church magazines.
