Elder Hans Verlan Andersen, 71, of Orem, Utah, is an emeritus professor of accounting at BYU. At the time of his call, he was serving as patriarch in the Orem Lakeview Stake. He is married to Shirley Hoyt. They are the parents of 11 children.
Elder George I. Cannon, 66, of Salt Lake City, Utah, is a vice president of Beneficial Life Insurance Company. He was serving as president of the Salt Lake Parleys Stake at the time of his call. He is married to Isabel Hales, and they have seven children.
Elder Francis M. Gibbons, 65, of Salt Lake City, Utah, recently retired after 16 years as secretary to the First Presidency. Prior to his call, he was serving as patriarch of the Salt Lake Ensign Stake. He is married to Helen Bay. They have four children.
Elder Gardner H. Russell, 65, Satellite Beach, Florida, is a manufacturer and financial consultant. At the time of his call, he was serving as a Regional Representative. He is married to Dorothy Rich, and they are the parents of four children.
Young Women
Jayne B. Malan, a freelance writer and producer, has been called as second counselor in the general presidency of the Young Women organization. She will serve as second counselor to Ardeth G. Kapp, general president of the Young Women. Maurine J. Turley will serve as first counselor. Sister Malan is married to Terry Malan. They are the parents of two children.
