Rooted in my heart
I wish you to know how much I’m thankful for this New Era magazine in watering the seed of the gospel to grow and be rooted in my heart.
I remember in the year 1978 being ten years old when two missionaries, laboring in love and understanding, patiently planted the seed of the gospel in our poor home. I was present at every discussion. I just sat observing them, because at that age I couldn’t fully comprehend their words. I hoped that through their actions I could better understand them.
I was baptized together with my family. True, I didn’t really understand why we were joining the Church, but as I went to church with my family I came to understand more and more.
The seed has grown, and yet at every turn there were temptations challenging me. I wondered whether I could truly follow all the commandments. Then one of the missionaries who taught us subscribed to the Church magazines for us. I then found the New Era which supplies my needs and helps me to stay close to the Church. It also gives me encouragement in such bitter trials, knowing that other members in other nations have overcome them. It strengthens my testimony.
So, Elder Hunter, wherever you are now, I would like to thank you for the New Era. Through this magazine you’ve truly helped to convert me. The Church is really true, and I am now preparing to serve a mission like my three brothers and sister.

When I’m depressed
I would just like you to know how much I enjoy the New Era and especially the articles. I like to read them when I’m depressed because I feel so much better after I do.

Just for me
I’d like to say the New Era is really great and an inspiration to me. The New Era was a big help for me to get to the Sydney Temple with the youth in the Perth Seventh Ward. I can always apply the articles to my life. It seems as if you’re writing them just for me. I imagine that’s how a lot of people feel.

Behind closed doors
I am new in the Young Women organization, and I really enjoy the New Era. When it comes, my sister and I usually fight over who gets it first. If I get it first I run to my room and lock the door so I can read it in peace and quiet. I really enjoy reading the Mormonisms. I usually read those first.

Too old and too young
I would like to thank you for the April 1987 New Era. I am too old for the Friend but a little too young for the New Era. So far this is the best Era ever.

Don’t give up
I love the New Era. It strengthens my testimony. It makes my day wonderful. I love the Lord. I love to talk to him in prayer. He answers my prayers through the Holy Ghost and helps me love others. I love reading the scriptures. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I have a strong testimony, and I’m glad that I’m a member of the Church.
I’m thankful for all the Savior has done for us. I hope to go on a mission. I will be on the Lord’s side all the way.
I would like you all to know that if you want to be happy you have to serve other people. I hope everyone will count his blessings and try to be happy. I believe in you and care for you. Don’t give up!

A friend
I am 14 years old, and I love to read the New Era! I look forward to receiving my issue every month. The Mormonads are GREAT. And with all of the helpful, uplifting stories, the New Era has become much more than a magazine to me. It has become a friend.

Why not not?
The Mormonads are great, but not everyone has the extra money to order them. Why not not print anything on the backsides of the ones in the magazine so they could be cut out and mounted from there?

A great help
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and your staff on the good work that you do in the New Era. It really is a great help to me here in Zimbabwe. It would be rather good to see some pictures and notes on youth who don’t live in the United States because here we don’t have the chance of getting to know the youth from the States. My mother who is not a member of the Church has also inquired into the reason.

Soooo jealous
When I read FYI for March I was soooo jealous I almost died. I read about the “Two at Space Camp.” I have always known I’d be a pilot, astronaut, or shuttle commander. I’ve always hoped I’d make it to space camp, but it’s a fat chance. Sometimes I feel as if everyone’s going to be in space before me. I’m going to be 12 on the 28th of February, and these two are 14. I was reading the New Era instead of math when I came across this article.

How about women?
It seems like all the articles and stories in the New Era are about men, for men, and are speaking directly to the men. How about more articles and stories about women, for women, and speaking directly to women?
