Helping my rowdy friend

One night I was sitting at home thinking about what I was going to do about a specific friend. She was getting involved with the wrong kind of people. I didn’t want to get the reputation she was getting, but I still wanted her good friendship.

That’s when I picked up the January issue of the New Era. I read the Questions and Answers section that talked about having rowdy friends. It said that I should be an example to her.

I really needed that article. It came at the perfect time. Now I know that with the help of that article, and the help of my Heavenly Father, I can better help my friend. Thank you so much.

Choose the right

I would like to thank you for all the help your magazine has given me facing the problems of high school. Your stories and aritcles always seem to give me support.

It is tough for youth to always choose the right in today’s world. So much is against us. You really lessen the effect of the world in my life.

Relating to relations

I wanted to write and say I could relate to the story “Wipeout” in the January 1991 issue. I, like Farrah, am 12. I’m also the oldest in my family. Boy, do I know what it is like to be put down by your sisters’ rude remarks, or get in trouble for fights you don’t start. Your parents tell you, “Act your age,“ “Set an example,” or “You should know better.”

Sure, little brothers and sisters can be pests, but they can also be nice. I really do love my sisters and brother. I also think our relationship will improve as we start to get older.

Dating outlook changed

After reading “Your Basic Buffalo, Your Tiny Chipmunk” (January 1991), I knew I had to write and thank you. I’ve already read it four times. Even though it’s not very applicable yet, at 15, it sure gives me something to prepare for.

My whole outlook on what to look for in relationships with guys changed for the better. I recognized that I want my husband to be my best friend. Since we marry who we date, I can see how important it is to make friends while dating.

Creative dating ideas

I was really impressed with your February 1991 issue. Although I’m not a totally “hard core” Mormon, I decided to pick up the New Era and thumb through it. I found your dating tips. Good idea!

I’m always on the lookout for creative dating ideas—I’m sick of movies, etc. I think you should have more of that great stuff. (I usually don’t read the New Era because it’s too spiritual and boring.) But thank you for that bit of goodness.

Thumbs up, down under

I’m a 14-year-old in the Brisbane, Australia, area and I really look forward to receiving the New Era each month.

The articles are great, and they encourage me to live the Church standards.

Thank you for a terrific magazine and keep up the good work.
