“And Mary Pondered,” New Era, Dec. 1993, 10–11

In Tune:

And Mary Pondered

With expression

1. An angel spoke unto the virgin maid:

“All hail, thou blessed one; be not afraid,

For God is with thee; thou shalt bear his Son—

The King forever, Israel’s Holy One!”

And Mary said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord;

Now be it unto me according to thy word.”

And Mary kept all these things,

And pondered them in her heart.

2. Then when Elisabeth heard Mary’s voice,

Her unborn baby leaped and did rejoice.

“Above all women, blest art thou,” said she.

“The mother of my Lord has come to me!”

And Mary said, “My soul doth magnify the Lord;

My spirit hath rejoiced in Him and in His word.”

And Mary kept all these things,

And pondered them in her heart.

3. She gently laid her baby in the hay.

And shepherds came to worship him and pray,

For heav’nly choirs had heralded His birth—

The Savior, Christ the Lord of heav’n and earth!”

The humble shepherds rose and made it known abroad.

And all who heard it marveled at the love of God.

And Mary kept all these things,

And pondered them in her heart.
