“Stargazer,” New Era, Oct. 1997, 51
Stargazer
I lie back
On my lawn chair
And watch the sky
As it turns gray
With orange edges.
The stars appear
Like open eyes
As darkness shuts its lid
On me.
A streak of light
Avoids my gaze
But the corner of my eye
Tells me it’s there—
A home run
In the cosmic
Baseball game
