Idea List:
Always Remember Him
Partaking of the sacrament is a sacred time to renew baptismal covenants and remember the Savior. It’s sometimes easy to go through the motions and not think about what the ordinance of the sacrament really means. Here are some suggestions from New Era readers on how to make partaking of the sacrament more meaningful to you:
-
Think of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and His Atonement while you partake of the sacrament.
-
Prepare yourself the night before by reading the scriptures, praying, and going to bed early; you will be able to focus better on the Sabbath.
-
Listen carefully to the words of the sacrament hymn as you sing.
-
During the sacrament, review the past week, and decide how you can improve in the coming week. Pick one thing to work on so you can become more Christlike and have the Holy Ghost with you.
-
Mosiah 18 discusses the covenants we make at baptism. Mentally review those covenants while partaking of the sacrament.
-
Think about your testimony. Share it if it’s fast Sunday.
-
Read about the Savior’s life and His sacrifice in the New Testament, or search the other standard works to find prophecies about Christ’s Atonement and the plan of salvation.
-
Quietly pray, giving thanks for blessings and asking for forgiveness or help throughout the week. Remember the sacrament sanctifies the souls of those who partake of it worthily (see Moro. 4:3).
-
Reread the words of the sacrament prayers, and ponder their meaning.
-
If you have trouble focusing on the sacrament, say a silent prayer to help you.
-
Ponder the symbolism of the sacrament ordinance.
-
If you are preparing, passing, or blessing the sacrament, be reverent and remember the sacredness of the sacrament.
