Looking Forward to Being Sealed

Though our plans were changed, we grew closer together and to God.

My fiancé and I were going to be sealed this month in the Sapporo Japan Temple. Then circumstances started changing because of the coronavirus. With each new uncertainty, I would seek for God’s guidance by praying, reading the scriptures, and listening to general conference talks. I repeated this process over and over again as I made decisions about the future. Eventually, the temples closed. Today we are still waiting to be sealed. But I’ve seen how God is helping us through this difficult time.

Blessings amid the Uncertainty

Honestly, this experience has been tough. But I’ve experienced many blessings as well. Writing in a journal has helped me recognize those blessings and has been very fulfilling during this difficult time.

One blessing I’ve seen is that the bond between me and my fiancé has grown stronger. He and I were living in different places, living separate lives, and unable to get together. But we decided to pray together and talk about the things we were learning from our gospel study. We made decisions together. Even though we remained physically apart, our bond deepened, and he seemed closer.

Moving Forward

Finally, we decided to be married civilly. I don’t know when we will be able to be sealed in the temple, but I look forward to it.

I believe there is much we can learn from this global pandemic. I trust that the Lord has a plan for our eternal good, no matter what happens in the world around us—“for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him” (2 Nephi 26:24).

I believe that the Lord wants to help all of us find happiness during this tough situation. I’ve already found peace in looking for the blessings I have. If you are facing similar trials right now, don’t despair. Even this pandemic can strengthen your testimony.
