As the work of gathering Israel on both sides of the veil continues to roll forth, coordinating that work—especially in temples—becomes increasingly important. From the temple presidency to the temple worker, being able to ensure that all shifts and assignments are covered and organization maintained is vital. The Temple Worker Portal is an online tool found on the Church’s website that helps achieve the goal of keeping temple work running efficiently by helping ordinance workers, the president, and the matron cover their own needs and assist others.
The portal can be used to meet many of the needs of ordinance workers and offers many helpful resources for temple workers to take advantage of.
Finding Substitutes
When a temple worker needs a substitute, they can turn to the portal for assistance. Because other temple workers have already entered their availability into the portal, finding a substitute to match your schedule is streamlined—no more calling multiple workers who may or may not be available for your shift. Instead, you’ll be reaching out solely to those who have already indicated that they are available. Additionally, the portal provides the contact information for those workers, so that you can more easily network with them.
Substituting for Others
Setting your personal preferences in the portal to reflect your availability makes it easier for other workers that need a substitute to find you. It also helps to prevent workers asking you to substitute when you’re not available. You are strongly encouraged to fill out your preferences to help facilitate the process of finding substitute workers to cover your shift in the temple.
Staying Up to Date
The portal houses announcements and other notifications so that you can easily find them and stay up to date on the information you need as a temple worker, as well as any assignments that you may receive. You can also find your assignments for the week or for your particular shift.
Setting Reminders
LDS Church members recognize that there is a lot going on in everyone’s life, including Church and family obligations. The Temple Worker Portal can help ease that stress by reminding you of your assignments, such as giving a thought during prayer meeting. You’ll also receive shift messages and other reminders as they come through.
In the portal, temple workers can add, edit, and submit requests by themselves. They can also request the help of a shift coordinator to make changes and requests. There are tutorials to help you learn how to use the portal. These tutorials can be found here:
Your time that you give as a volunteer in the temple and in the LDS Church is appreciated and valued. Without your help, temple work would not be possible. Additionally, your service helps temple patrons have a wonderful and spiritual experience in the temple as they participate in the temple ordinances on behalf of family members, from baptism to initiatory, an endowment session, and sealings. Using the portal makes it easier to handle the different situations that come up in life, helping to eliminate some of the stress you might experience while ensuring that the work continues seamlessly.
