In an effort to improve the search capability, the Church website switched from old search technologies to Google as its underlying search technology in June 2022. The search tool can be accessed by clicking the magnifying glass in the main navigation on the Church website or by going directly to churchofjesuschrist.org/search.
The search function on churchofjesuschrist.org only returns results from Church-owned domains. This list includes websites such as churchofjesuschrist.org, josephsmithpapers.org, justserve.org, thetabernaclechoir.org, and familysearch.org. The search results on churchofjesuschrist.org and google.com should be very similar, except that results from outside websites will not be included.
It is common for users of search to want to filter results by a certain section of the website. They might only want to see results from general conference or Book of Mormon or Liahona. This can be done by clicking the dropdown menu in the top right of the search page below the search bar. There are several options currently available, with additional filters planned for the future. To search a more specific section of the website such as 1 Nephi or Liahona 2022, you can use the “site:" advanced search technique. See more details below.
Google offers a number of advanced search options. You can use these patterns directly in the search box on churchofjesuschrist.org.
The Gospel Library mobile app also received significant enhancements to its search functionality in June 2022. A companion Gospel Library search experience will be made available soon on the churchofjesuschrist.org. While it will only search Gospel Library content like general conference, magazines, and manuals, it will offer a number of advanced filters such as author, date range, and sorting by scripture book.
