Since February, there has been a war raging in Eastern Europe. Many people need food, shelter, and other supplies.
One young woman named Lindsay wanted to help—but there’s not much a 17-year-old girl from America can do … right?
Think again!
Lindsay raised thousands of dollars for humanitarian aid! Here were some of the winning ingredients of her project:
- She asked ward members and neighbors to make cookies, cakes, breads, and other delicious things for a “Goodies for Good” sale.
- Lindsay’s mom and dad put out the word on their social media accounts, letting people donate money even if they couldn’t come to the bake sale.
- The taco shop where Lindsay works part-time also made a sizable contribution.
All in all, they received more than $1,500 from the bake sale itself (that’s a lot of brownies!), plus another $2,400 in donations. That’s a total of almost $4,000!
With her parents’ help, Lindsay used the money to buy supplies such as clothes, hygiene kits, and baby items, then worked with a charity organization to ship everything to the people who need it.
“I had been wanting to do a bake sale for a while, but I hadn’t had a good cause for it,” Lindsay said. “Then everything with Ukraine happened … and it kinda clicked.”
Great job, Lindsay!
