Here’s a fun object lesson idea.
The Anti-Nephi-Lehis were a bloodthirsty people who had a mighty change of heart. When they turned to Christ, they buried their weapons of war to show how committed they were to starting a new life.
Here’s an object lesson you could use to talk about this with your family or class!
- Read Alma 24:17–19 out loud together.
- Give everyone a piece of paper and a pencil.
- Invite each person to write down a bad habit they want to change. (This can be private—they don’t have to share it with the group if they don’t want to.)
- Dig a hole in your yard, or prepare a pot with some soil.
- Bury the slips of paper under dirt, planting something on top of it, like a seed. Talk about how you can help each other make good choices this week.
- Throughout the week, water the plant or seed and check in with each other about how things are going with changing your habits.
Now... here’s something important to remember. Changing habits can be hard! If you mess up, don’t beat yourself up too much. Instead, think about what you can learn from the relapse and start again. Over time, your resolve can grow stronger, like a seed growing into a plant.
God is pleased with every effort we make to change in good ways!
